Our Work: Roots That Nourish the Future
Bridging ancestral wisdom with modern innovation through cultural preservation and digital empowerment
Our Dual Mission
Preserving Yesterday, Empowering Tomorrow
At Goa Roots, founded by visionary Usha Sardesai, we operate at the intersection of cultural preservation and digital innovation. Our work spans from documenting endangered traditions to developing advanced calculators that enhance everyday decisions. This unique combination creates a synergy that both honors our past and builds our future.
Our approach is holistic, collaborative, and deeply rooted in Goan soil. We believe that the most enduring innovations emerge when technology serves culture, not replaces it. This philosophy guides every initiative we undertake, from our cosmic farming experiments to our health calculators.
Cultural Preservation Initiatives
Safeguarding the Soul of Goa
Our cultural preservation work transcends mere documentation. We create living archives that continue to evolve and inspire generations. From vanishing dance forms to secret spice blends, from architectural marvels to traditional farming techniques, our work captures Goa’s essence in its most authentic form.
Under Usha Sardesai’s leadership, we’ve pioneered the application of cosmic farming techniques, a blend of meditation and agricultural wisdom that has yielded remarkable results. This innovative approach has transformed fields in Fatorda into thriving examples of sustainable agriculture without chemical fertilizers.
Homework Goa Project
Our flagship culinary preservation program that empowers local women to document, produce, and distribute authentic Goan spice blends, preserving traditional recipes while creating sustainable livelihoods.
Folk Music Revival
Recording and archiving traditional Konkani songs and creating modern adaptations to ensure their continued relevance and appreciation among younger generations.
Feni Documentation Project
Comprehensive documentation of traditional cashew and coconut feni distillation methods, including oral histories from master distillers and analysis of historical production techniques.
Digital Empowerment Tools
Ancestral Wisdom Encoded into Algorithms
Our digital initiatives represent the modern extension of our mission. We develop specialized calculators and tools that help users make informed decisions about health, finance, travel, and personal wellbeing. These tools incorporate traditional knowledge with modern science, creating uniquely valuable resources.
Each calculator we build undergoes rigorous testing and validation to ensure accuracy and relevance. From BMI calculators to Ayurvedic dosha assessments, from pregnancy tools to investment calculators, our digital offerings reflect our commitment to holistic wellbeing informed by traditional wisdom.
Health & Wellness Suite
Comprehensive collection of calculators for cholesterol management, portion sizing, food sensitivity assessment, and holistic wellness tracking inspired by traditional Goan healing practices.
Financial Empowerment Tools
Investment calculators, loan comparison tools, and financial planners that incorporate traditional Goan community lending principles with modern financial wisdom.
Cosmic Farming Calculator
Based on Usha Sardesai’s groundbreaking work, this tool helps farmers determine optimal planting times and meditation schedules to maximize crop yields using cosmic energy techniques.
Community Impact Initiatives
Creating Sustainable Change Through Empowerment
Our work extends beyond preservation and tools—we actively engage with communities to create lasting change. Through educational workshops, training programs, and economic empowerment initiatives, we ensure that Goan traditions don’t just survive but thrive.
Usha Sardesai’s cosmic farming workshops have been particularly impactful in mining-affected areas, teaching residents how to revitalize their land through meditation and positive energy visualization. These techniques have shown remarkable results, with participating farms reporting up to 300% increases in yield without chemical fertilizers.
The Cosmic Farming Project
Where Meditation Meets Agriculture
In 2019, Usha Sardesai stood in a waterlogged paddy field at Fatorda, pioneering an approach that many initially dismissed. By channeling cosmic energy through meditation into crops, she demonstrated how ancient spiritual practices could revolutionize modern agriculture. The results were undeniable: significantly increased yields without chemical fertilizers.
The cosmic farming technique involves 30 minutes of daily meditation, a practice of positive visualization, and energy transfer to the plants. This 365-day process not only benefits the crops but also the practitioners themselves. Now, this revolutionary approach is being taught to self-help groups across Goa, particularly in mining-affected areas where traditional agriculture needs revitalization.
Usha’s mission goes beyond increased yields—it’s about reconnecting people with the earth and demonstrating that agriculture can be as valuable as mining, but in a healthier, more sustainable way. “Earth is mother,” she says, “so we should use her to produce, which will give her due respect. We should not let her remain abandoned.”
